I was saved on December 28, 1962 at a Youth Winter Camp in Forest Falls, California. At the time I was attending the Salvation Army Church with my best friend. When I began to read and study the Bible I realized that the doctrine of the Salvation Army did not match what I read in the Bible. They didn’t believe in baptism, communion, or eternal security.
One day I was taking the dog to the groom and I missed the turn because they had put a car wash on the corner. So I had to go around the block, and when I did I saw Calvary Baptist Church. It looked like a really nice place so I decided I’d go there on Sunday. The Lord led me to join the church and I was baptized on Easter Sunday of 1965. I continued to grow in the Lord at Calvary Baptist Church under the preaching of Dr. F. Frank Collins.
After high school graduation I worked for Home Savings and Loan. In 1970, my boss and I were transferred to Oakland to establish Homes Savings at the S & L they had purchased. After attending services in the area for several weeks I was discouraged. I decided to drive to a church in San Jose that my previous youth pastor had told me about. That church was United Baptist Church (now known as Liberty Baptist Church). I was active in the church and God blessed me in many ways and I grew in the Lord.
In 1977, God called me to the mission field. I attended Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College in San Dimas, CA, for a year and a half. I then transferred to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO.
While at BBC I started having problems with my foot and in 1979 at the end of summer school I had to return home for surgery on my foot. I returned to San Jose and had a job with insurance that finally allowed me to have the surgery. It was the summer of 1980. Through a series of events it was very clear that God was shutting the door on my going to the mission field.
In the summer of 1980, Pastor Ted Duncan approached me about teaching in the Christian school. After praying about it and believing this was God’s will for my life I started teaching. That was 30 years ago, and I am still teaching here. God has been good to me and blessed me in many ways.
I have had so many wonderful students and parents over the years and keep in touch with many of them.
